Looking for new PSU and Graphics card

I have a Gateway DX4840-11e. At the moment it's just packing the factory Intel HD Graphics. I'm looking to spend no more then $500 on a graphics card and PSU. I wouldn't mind spending less then that, but its whatever.

Screen: a 1366 x 768, 60hz, 720p.

GPU: Intel Core i3 550

Ram: 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz

Mobo: Intel H57

Just one more quick question. I have a second monitor but its nothing special. I just use it to make school work easier. Can I still have it plugged into the onboard GPU when I have the card hooked up?

BTW, thanks a lot for helping me out. That's WAY less then I was thinking I would end up spending. Not to mention I was hoping for medium graphics at best.

Would it be better to upgrade the CPU or to replace this HD?

Gpu is must upgrade.your cpu can litle perform less due to dual core.so you can upgrade to i5 or i7 as they are quad core and performs better in games.
