Hi all

So my current laptop is 4 years old - I had an accident and damaged the laptop which is currently with the insurance company. I was advised that due to the nature of the damage (water damage), they will likely offer a cash settlement instead of a repair.

My current spec is below and was a prebuilt purchase from scan.co.uk

17.3 * LG Screen
8gb Ram 1600
1TB HDD
GTX 970M GPU
I5 (I think!) cpu.

I use the laptop for occasional gaming - I was enjoying playing AC: Odyssey before it was damaged. It really did struggle to play this game on low. I tried nudging a few settings up to medium as the game was an eyesore, but that really made the fps plunge to the point of unplayable.

I've heard that's a pretty intense game to play on a laptop in terms of system requirements. Ideally, I'd like a replacement capable of playing this with medium - high graphic settings. Going for ultra settings may be beyond my budget of £1,100.

I used to be really savvy with tech jargon / builds, but I'm really out of the loop now.

If anyone can point me in the right direction of some builds, website links or specific purchase links - or just some general advice, that would be much appreciated.

I'm not overly fussed about having a 17.3* screen, I plug it in to a TV via HDMI most of the time anyway.

In terms of storage, I'd need a minimum 1TB HDD. I've never had a SSD, but open to suggestions.

Many thanks

Ash

What is your preferred site for purchase? Given how you've stated the currency, we know you're from the UK. We'll need a preferred site for purchase to help narrow down some suggestions. Is 1,100 UK pounds your absolute maximum budget?

A list of all the tasks and app's would also help us two fold when suggesting a laptop.

My budget can stretch slightly, but aiming for the 1.1k mark.

I would prefer to purchase from Amazon.co.uk or scan.co.uk

I've been told overclockers.co.uk is also a reputable site.

I don't really use it for much besides gaming, streaming video and managing my cloud storage. I do a bit of video editing now and again also.

I would consider purchasing refurnished, if that would drastically increase my options.

Thanks

Hi all

So I've been looking and have found a few which stand out to me - some don't have the 1tb HDD, but I could probably make it work with a 512 SSD and just avoid storing cloud data locally. Is 512 GB sufficient?

Could I please get some advice / comparions on the following builds? Feel free to allude me to some better steals ☺
