So I’m new to building PCs and budget isn’t really an issue. I bought an Asus dual gtx 1070 8GB. I bought a monitor... Asus ROG SWIFT PG279Q 27” 2560x1440 IPS 165Hz with G-sync, thinking the G-sync would work with the 1070 but the more I read the more I get confused. Did I waste my money with the gsync or are they compatible?

Solution
Gsync is beneficial with a 1070 to smooth out stuttering, although 1070 may not get you to that 165 FPS @ 2k. For that, GTX 1080 is the way to go. With 1070, you can get a cheaper one with <100Hz. However, if you will upgrade to 1080 in the future, you are fine with this purchase.
