Looking for some guidance and advice for a friend's PC build

Hey all, I'm helping a friend of mine build a computer. He's been on a laptop for a few years now and really wants to get back on a full desktop. I've thrown together what I feel is a reasonably nice system but I've been out of the building game for a few years so I'm not sure what the hip new trends are. Wanted to throw what I have at you all and see if anyone has any comments, recommendations, or most importantly, forseen issues with what I have. Thanks!

Something to note: One of the main reasons for the build is to support his new high-end professional graphics monitor which boasts a considerable 2560x1440 resolution.

Approximate Purchase Date: This Week
Budget Range: 1500 - 1700

System Usage: Programming, often high end graphics programming. Gaming, mostly Dota 2 which he plays religiously. And copious amounts of videos and internet.
Are you buying a monitor: Monitor will be bought separately and will require a DisplayPort
Parts to Upgrade: Errything
Do you need to buy OS: Already have, it will be Windows 7 64bit
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I've been using pcpartpicker and am very used to newegg.

Parts Preferences: Definitely Intel and Nvidia preferred. I am also a corsair fanboy.

First i changed the CPU then I changed the GPU for a stronger one since your running a 2560x1440 Res. Changed the SSD to a better one. It would be cheaper to buy from separate places that have the deals. If you buy all from Newegg youll end up paying more but this is my tweaked version.

Also changed the PSU to a more reliable manufacture. XFX has very good quality PSU's and 850 watt Full modular gold + was easily fitted in the budget.

Not bad. However, I would give in to a Xeon E3. The higher end ones could be slightly better than i7-4770K. The Xeon E3-1275 V3 is slightly better than the i7. And I would give him a bit more space for programming and gaming.

CPU: Changed to i7-4770K, 4820K and 4770K are very similar in performance except that 4820K utilize X79 motherboard, which uses quad-channel RAM and better SLI/CF. However, both factor won't affect him. Source: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/core_i7_4820k_processor_review,1.html
Motherboard: Changed to Z87-PRO, top quality Z87 board.
RAM: Changed to Ripjaws X 16 GB, a lot cheaper and top tier RAM manufacturer.
SSD: Upgraded to Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB, best SSD on market, and very cheap.
HDD: Upgraded to Seagate Barracuda 2 TB, WD Black isn't really worth it especially when there is a budget for a SSD.
GPU: Upgraded to GTX 780, more GPU power for all the Dota 2 prayers LOL well for his graphic needs also
Case: Changed to Corsair 300R Windowed, nice looking case, but this is opinion based.
PSU: Changed to SeaSonic G-750, I can't find any deal better than this one, it's on sale and like big sale.

Really agree with sprinigng for the better graphics card. Deeply reviewed all the suggestions in this thread and this was by and away the most impressive for our budget and desires. Thanks so much!
