Hi guys, I am just looking into getting a pc together to build and would appreciate it if anyone has any input on it, as i am doing it for the first time.

Here are the specs for the build i'm thinking of creating.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Windforce OC Video Card
Case: NZXT S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: XFX TS 650W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply

I'm considering adding an Intel i7 instead of the i5, especially if it would cause any bottlenecking,as im going to be using it mostly for gaming, but I am trying to keep the price down as i am adding an OS too.

Looking forward to hearing from someone on this subject, thanks.

I'd recommend to add GTX 1070 SC Gaming

that's another 140$.
You can save on PSU about 20$ - no problem at all with RM550x
You can save on memory by going to 8 gigs (would not recommend) about 40$
you can save on SSD about 40-50$
So at most you are looking at 100$ saves and they are not really worth it in the long run.

It is possible to base your system on what you have posted initially, but that will save you just the cost of MB.
the Z170 based MB and K CPU can add 15-25% performance with overclock - that's huge. It takes 2-3 generations to get such gains. That means your systems stays viable longer. Much longer. The MB I linked is...
Sorry, just came from the building pc guidelines page didn't see it before this, should've included some more info.

The monitor is an HDMI Sceptre 1920x1080 res and i'm looking at a budget of around $1000-$1200

I usually use PcPartPicker, here's the link for the build, includes the stores i would order from, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ Also i would not be overclocking this build, not for quite a while at least.

There are minor gains to be had having an i7, but if you're on a budget the i5 is perfectly fine for any AAA title. If you have a little more to spend, I personally would put it into the cooling. If you want air then perhaps the Noctua NH-D14 or for water an H80i GT. Power supply is more than enough, i'd recommend adding another RAM module to run in dual channel and space permitting an SSHD or HD as 250GB will run low fast if you're installing games. Finally, if you can stretch to it, consider an ATX mobo over a mATX, shame to waste the case space.

My 2 cents, good luck with the build!

Here is your list:
more ram, more ssd more CPU, better MB (and they are overclockable)

For 1080p@60Hz monitor, GTX 1070 is a huge waste for the next few years, so i put a GTX 1060 instead.
So this system will be good for 3 years at least as is and later you can just upgrade the GPU.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($328.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($142.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($79.88 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Sandisk X400 512GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($134.99 @ Directron)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB SC GAMING Video Card ($259.99 @ B&H)
Case: NZXT S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case ($66.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1138.80

Just for kicks, if i were to go with a 1070, what would you recommend as a good build if i used the parts i originally posted as a base but change the i5 for an i7 and the other changes you mentioned but still keep the price reasonable?

Not to mention that from my experience, I don't buy MSI, GB and ASRock products. They just lack the QC and support required for high end.
For example if you get a video card with annoying coil whine (and it can happen), EVGA will RMA. The rest will tell you "it's normal, f*ck off".
