So my current rig specs:

i7960 3.2Ghz
24GB ram
850watt corsair PSU
Asus 780ti 3gb GPU

So here is what I've got going on, I want to build a new rig.. but I need this new rig to be more quiet.
I plan on reusing my Asus 780ti

Can someone maybe get me started on what I need for a new build? I've built 4 different comps before, but haven't been in the scene for a few years. I know haswell and maxwell are hot items right now. I'm thinking about a enclosed water cooling? silent fans etc...

Any recommendations would be great.

Things I will need:
Case
MoBo
Ram
CPU
CPU cooler
PSU

Budget is around $1700.00

Thanks!

I used an 850 watt psu if you ever want to sli. If not, the evga g2 750 will be great. I have a very identical build and it stays absolutely silent, except for my hard drive. That's why I used all SSD. Those spinning hard drives are loud.

Also if you're ram is ddr3 you can just carry that over and save some money. You could do water cooling, but I think that is more for show. The air cooling above is quiet and effective. I chose the noctua cooler but if you really dont like the color the be quiet cpu coolers are also very good.

Change the AssRock mobo for an Asus-personal preference is the Hero VII. The build quality is high, sound chip is the best stock I've heard, great for overclocking.

I believe the better version of the D14 is the U14S. Should provide better cooling, however beware as these things are monstrous. Just huge.

I would take a high quality XFX 850w Core or Black edition. Just my opinion, XFX is one of the highest quality PSUs you can buy.

As for the case, the Corsair 550d is very highly reviewed and has built in sound dampening material. Definitely worth checking out.

That case is not really silent oriented but it is a great case. If thats what you want then go for it. The noctua and be quiet air coolers will be the most quiet since there is no pump along with great cooling, but the h110 is a good cooler and as long as you run the fans low it should stay quiet.

I would stick to the psu I mentioned. Its a great psu made by superflower which is a top notch company. Asrock make good motherboards but if you want the best the Asus maximus hero is really nice. Any ram will do. My preference are G.skill and corsair just because they look the best. I would stick to a 4790k cpu. You can even get away with an i5 but if you plan to keep this for five years go for the i7, it should last.

Thanks for the info.

I probably should have prefaced in my original post WHY I want a silent PC.

I'm doing a lot of recording, and the mic is (normally) about 3-4ft from the PC, and with my current PC its loud as ever and adds a horrible droning noise in the background of my recordings.

My current system has a master cooler V8 (which is loud)
5 standard 140mm fans (which are loud)
and a 200mm fan on top.

So while I figured updating my fans/case would help, I decided to build a new PC (That and I recently got a huge bonus at work) So with some extra spending money, this is what I decided to do.

Anyways ALL that being said. I don't think I need a case specifically designed to be quiet. If I minimise my fans, and get the silent edition ones hopefully that'll go a long ways. Any other recommendations would be great.

This should be quiet enough for your recording and it will look really good.
