Looking for suggestions for an upgrade

So I have an asus p8z77-v lx motherboard which is getting to be dated and im looking for an upgrade

I mostly use my pc for photo editing and gaming and im looking for something not super cheap but not super expensive and can get the job done. I guess mid range.

Also, I'm currently using an intel i5 3570k and ddr3 ram, from what I understand, if I upgrade to a current motherboard and want to eventually upgrade my processor but in the meantime, continue to use my current processor, that I wont be able to. Am I correct?

Last question, regarding a new processor, I'm looking for one that will last some good years for gaming but wont break the bank any suggestions? thanks

The physical socket has now changed twice since your motherbaord/cpu. Thus your old CPU will pysically not fit in a new motherboard and a new CPU wont fit in your current motherboard. To top it off we have also switched to a newer type of memory.

Thus your upgrade is an all or nothing ordeal that will require a new motherboard, new CPU and new memory.

You said without breaking the bank, what sort of budget are you looking at? For photo editing and gaming you should at minimum be looking at another i5.

Another option would be to look for a used i7-3770k. This will only marginally help with game play in most games, but make a big difference in photo editing and other tasks that can use more then 4 cores/threads. A new i5 will only give you 15-20% performance improvement.

My main concern is gaming, I have a gtx 1060 right now.
I guess im looking for mid range everything
