I'm rather new to this whole building a PC thing, and would rather go with a PCbuilder like Avadirect (cheapest place I've seen tbh) to save myself a lot of effort but a lot of people also recommend more of building a PC yourself to avoid paying a large and hefty premium.

I'm sure I could learn so I'd appreciate any tips or video links anyone here could provide. But I also want recommendations on the components too. I'm not much for the appearance of the inside or outside of a PC and care more functionality.

So far using PCBuilder I have this http://pcpartpicker.com/list/RWmZwV

Any recommendations?

What is the purpose of this build?

I recommend a good air cooler instead of a water cooler.

32GB of RAM? Why? Get 2x16GB if you want that much.

Unless you are working in music you don't need a sound card.

That is an overpriced 1080

no ssd in a $3k build?

Here are some recommended changes

The purpose is mainly for gaming with possible small 3D animation work.

I didn't realize it said 4 x 8GB, derp. I also want 32 Gigs as while a tad overkill it can help with the field I plan on going too which is 3D modeling and animation. But that's a long long ways off.

Water cooling has always been a recommendation of a lot of people and it's something that will help with keeping it cool and quiet which is nice.

I'm a bit of an audiophile, while i don't work in music I do like having good sound.

It's a water cooled 1080.

Eh I'm used to normal hard drives and don't care much for some extra speed in programs starting up and I rarely if ever move files around. Plus this whole two hard drive thing would confuse the heck outta me.
