Hey community,

This is my homebuilt computer:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
Processor: AMD FX-8350 OC @ 4.52 (1.408 Vcore)
Ram: 12 Gigs Corsair (2 x 4GB Vengeance and 2 x 2GB XMS3) all @ 1333/9-9-9-24
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Boot Drive: 120 GB Intel 330 SSD
Storage: Various HDD’s
Case: Coolermaster Stormtrooper
Cooler: Corsair H100 w/ Corsair SP120 fans in a push configuration
Video: Crossfire Diamond Radeon 6950 2GB unlocked/flashed to 6970 @900/1400
Power Supply: Corsair HX 1050

I use it mostly for gaming and it is my general day to day pc as well. I am looking for suggestions on ways to get even more performance from my system and thought I would throw it out to other knowledgeable persons to get ideas. Here are my thoughts:

- I do plan on trying to overclock some more. Just got the H100, getting about 45 degrees Celsius as the max temp. Came from Antec Kuhler 620 and that was hitting 60 degrees Celcius while gaming.

- I know that I could move to Intel for better FPS but alot of the parts were gifts and don't wanna spend $300 -$400 for a 3570k/3770k (those would be what I would get if I just fell into money) and a new motherboard. Almost all of my gaming is 1920 x 1080.

- I'm on the fence on new gpu(s). I replaced the thermal paste on my gpus and saw that the thermal tape was starting to fall apart on my older gpu. I hope that I can replace it but not sure what would be needed to do so. I am also bothered by the noise of a multi-gpu setup and would consider some combination of 7950 (single or dual) or 7970.

Anyway, that's alot of stuff but any suggestions from others would be much appreciated!

Honestly, you have a really nice rig as it is. I would wait another generation before spending any more. Within the next year you will have options of Haswell CPUs and 8000 series video cards. Of course, further over-clocking your 6950s will help a little.

Thanks. I want to overclock my cards more but weird stuff starting happening past 900/1400. That's another reason why I am interested in thermal pads for my oldest card, so I can bring temps down and not have to crank the fan as much and to maybe get a better overclock. I want to hold on a new GPU until after the new consoles come out and have more chouices between the 7000's and 8000's. Maybe save some coin if the 7000's will handle ports for the next 3 years! :D

That is a good idea. GF might shoot me though if I got another monitor (got 3 but rarely triple monitor). I will look into the Korean screens, they seem pretty reasonable. I saw this link http://techreport.com/review/23291/those-27-inch-ips-displays-from-korea-are-for-real and this one yesterday http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/08/24/hard-choices-the-200300-2560x1440-27-monitor/ so I may try to sell one or maybe even two to help offset the cost. If you have any suggestions please let me know!
