I have looked through a million forums regarding my question, and while they have been all useful, they are all from a couple of years ago, thus those processors are a bit out of date, and I can't actually find them in stock anywhere.

I have an eMachine ET1331G-05W.
MOBO(OEM): MCP61PM-GM
current processor(OEM): AMD Athlon II x2 250u 1.6ghz. (AM3 socket)
I have upgraded psu to a 600watt(Diablotek). I also upgraded the graphics card to a NVIDIA GTX 550Ti.

Here are the specs on the mobo http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/4006254R/4006254Rsp2.shtml

It states that it supports up to 89watt processors, but I have read a few forums where people used 95 watt cpus. One used an Athlon II x4 640 and the other was a Phenom.

Here is the PC: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6401363

I am really trying to avoid having to also upgrade the mobo. So, if someone could help me out with current processors that would work with my current one, that would be awesome.

Specifications for that motherboard:

"Supports AMD® AM2 Socket K8 Athlon™ 64 X2, Athlon™ 64, Athlon™ FX, and Sempron™ processors under 89 watt power consumption."

Athlon™ 64 X2

CPU Socket Type Socket AM2
Multi-Core Technology Dual-Core
TDP (Thermal Power Design) 89 Watts

Try the used ebay market and try using

for reference. There are no current new CPUs models that are being sold for your old motherboard.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother trying to upgrade the CPU for that board. I doubt you would get much of a performance boost for the cost. If you look inside your case for the front panel connectors, are they individual connectors or just one big block? If individual connectors, which Emachines often used to do, you could upgrade your motherboard, cpu, and ram and keep everything else.

You might get away with a 95W CPU due to the small difference but i think that the company meant was that brisbane CPUs are the best CPUs your board supports.

The best 89W CPU that would probably work is an AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ (Brisbane, 65nm, 89W 3.1GHz, G2 stepping)
The part number is ADV6000DOBOX

They can easily be found on ebay for a cheapish price.

Thank you for your quick responses!

I believe my next step is going to be looking at my benchmark performance to see what is really bringing my computer down. It probably is my motherboard. :( I just know that I do not want to replace my motherboard. I will have to find someone to do it for me, because I will mess it all up. I am far to clumsy, hate dealing with wires, and am not good with fragile objects what-so-ever.

If I do update the motherboard, I found this motherboard/cpu combo which seems good for the price... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1497695

logainofhades, the PC was refurbished, so I believe that is why everything is off with the motherboard and cpu. According to the mobo specs, it is an AM2, but the current processor is an AM3. This is what is really causing me confusion with trying to find a compatible cpu. I got this pc for a cheap price thinking I can easily upgrade it over the years. Which would have been a good idea, but I probably shouldn't have gone with a refurbished one.
