Looking for the best LCD monitor for graphic design other than Apple in 2011

Hello, I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.6 with a 2.66Ghz processor. I use the machine for graphic design, so color accuracy and font clarity is my main concern.I also have a budget of around $500 Also, would like to be at 27'' if possible. Thanks very much. This has become a daunting task and your help is much appreciated.

However, my first thought is that you'll need to either stretch your budget or settle for a smaller monitor. Non-TN 27-inchers like the Dell U2711 cost $1000 or more. However, the Dell U2410 is within your budget if you'll settle for a 24 inch. (I presume you already have calibration equipment)

Thanks for your responce. I am the fact gatherer. My wife of course will decide. Is the dell u2410, in your opinion, her best choice for that price range? Oh, we do not have calibration equipment. To achieve the best color are you suggesting that we will need calibration equipment?

Only the 24" Dell U2410 is within your budget as stated above.

If you can stretch your budget to $700, then you should be able to buy the 24" NEC LCD2690WUXi2 which is relatively inexpensive color accurate professional LCD monitor.

Additionally, if you do not have a colorimeter, then you also need to take that into consideration. Decent / good one will cost between $100 - $250. Excellent ones are generally $250+.
