i'm doing a mini-itx build and need a cooler less than 140mm to fit in the case. am4 socket if that matters.

i'm looking for the best performance i can get for the money without going stupid in cost. i'd like to keep it fairly cheap but $60+ isn't too much if it is the right choice.

anyone have any experience with this type cooler can can suggest a product or 2? noctua has a couple models that would fit but not sure i like the brown color of the fan unless they've made some black ones now :)

No experience with M-ITX, but...
Noctua has their largest at NH-U9S Chromax, but I think their lower profile options are too expensive for what they offer...
How about adding Thermalright Assassin King 120 Mini or be quiet! Pure Rock Slim 2 to the list of options?

Noctua U9S I think is 125 mm tall and is a traditional tower that blows front to back in a tower case, rather than down like most "low profile" coolers.

It is also likely to keep temps lower than coolers that blow down onto the motherboard. Temps with it should be within 5 or 6 degrees of the taller U12S.

Noctua does have several down-blowing coolers that are even shorter than the U9S if you want to go that route.

Not sure which Noctuas are available in black not brown.

Scythe also has some low profile models that are pretty good. Look for the Shiruken models. They may have others. Should have black fans. I used a "Big Shiruken" over 10 years ago and was satisfied.

sorry, i did not mean i only wanted noctua. just figured that would be the first suggestions and i don't really want a brown cooler.

the be quiet pure rock is in my head for sure. i have other be quiet coolers and like them.

since this is a small case i considered a fan blowing down might help keep the vrm's and such a touch cooler. but the big front fan should be good enough really. i'm open to any type cooler really, just that it performs well and does not cost $100 :)

the case i am looking at is the thermaltake core v1.
