Since boxing day sales are coming in a couple days i was thinking about new GPU's and had faster RAM on my mind. Im still gaming on 1080p and have no plans on buying a 4K monitor yet. My 27" Asus monitor is about a year old and is still working like new. I will say that my cards are working fine but i have been told a few times to get a gtx 970 or 980. I also ordered a Sapphire R9 295 X2 for $950.00 but I cancelled it before it shipped. If I do it will be from Asus but im not sure yet. Can someone give me some advice on this. Ill provide links to stuff ive been looking at. My specs are as follows. Honest opinions please.

i7 4770K @ 4.4
Asus Maximus VII Hero
Corsair H80i (waiting for the Deepcool Captain 120 to release in Canada)
G.Skill RipjawsX 1600 CL9
Gigabyte HD7950 Xfire
Corsair AX1200i (yeah i know its overkill)
Samsung 840 120GB EVO (boot drive)
Samsung 840 120GB
Kingston HyperX 120GB
Seagate Barracuda 3TB (connected externally to USB 3.0)

Things im considering:

Thank you.

I f primarily for gaming, I'd go the 980 Strix of the items listed - Love mine!....DRAM you can prob OC and might add a couple or 3 FPS, faster DRAM maybe a bit more. The faster new DRAM about the same. The 980 though will open the door to SLI in the future and is far better than either the 970 or a 290 or 290X

Overclock the ram, simple as that. Mine are rated 1600 but hit 2133 easy.

Just go check out a ram overclocking guide.

Is upgrading from HD7950 Xfire to GTX 970 even worth it considering im on 1080p? Ive never owned an Nvidia card but AMD drivers are a headache.

Ive been looking at the Strix 980 and it probably makes sense for future sli and possible 4K monitor upgrade in the future.

I ordered an Asus Strix 980 today and im thinking about the Corsair Vengeance Pro Red DDR3 2133MHz CL9. I could sell 8GB of my current ram and use the other 8GB for a build for my mum. I make money back and get faster ram. I never was a fan of overclocking ram. Thanks for all your advice.
