Looking to add a second monitor

Ok so here is my setup. I have my system hooked up to my 50 in TV and its working great and all. Now here is what I want to do. If I am playing a game on my TV can I use my system to output to a second monitor but just the desktop?

For example I am playing crysis 3 on the big screen but my second monitor is showing the windows desktop. I want to do this primarily to monitor my CPU and GPU temps and just to dabble in dual monitor setup. My PC is a intel i5-4670K, 8GB Ram, GTX 780's in SLI.

No problem. Plug the second monitor into the first video card (along with the first monitor). You can go into the Nvidia control panel (right-click desktop) and set it up under "set up multiple monitors" or by using the windows settings under resolution. Just move the windows that you want to the second monitor before starting the game. If the game is running under the native resolution of the first monitor then the windows will stay where you put them.
