Hi, I'm trying to build two more or less identical computers for $500-700 with at least 8gb-16gb ram for my parents to browse, stream, watching youtube, open some basic apps. I only need the hardware parts like CPU, cooler, ram, etc, have all the monitors, keyboard, mouse, etc already.

I'm also looking to buy a really good CPU, CPU cooler, motherboard and case for my brother as a gift ... he can get his own GPU lol (damn those things are expensive these days) ... I'm looking to buy an I7-8700K as the CPU, I'm trying to look for a decently priced motherboard but not anything over $300.

I'm also resided in CAD so this is all CAD pricing.
I'm reading other people's threads with similar parts and pricing to get a general idea but thanks for any help.

Edit: woops, I think I might've posted this in the wrong section? Sorry if I did.

The g4560 is not too far in performance from the i3-7100, for half the price. They are both from the last gen... http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4560-vs-Intel-Core-i3-7100/3892vs3891

The current gen. 8100 is a viable choice, but with the kind of workload you have specified for your parents, much of the resource would be waste and and will remain unused probably. But in case you want to go that way, this is what it should look like...

CPU: Intel - Core i3-8100 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($147.25 @ shopRBC)
Motherboard: ASRock - Z370 Pro4 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($119.50 @ Vuugo)
Memory: ADATA - 8GB (2 x 4GB)...

Say what? You want "2" PC's with current gen "I7" for under $700? Well one pc for under $700 with a CPU that takes up more than half the budget isn't going to happen, can you be a little more realistic with your Hardware and budget requirements? You have also got to take inconsideration that 16GB of RAM is $120+ so.

CPU $340 + RAM $120... well that doesn't leave you much for the rest of the system.

Yeah I see that, 2 Identical PC's for $700 which would probably be better as Laptops since they gives you everything needed and a 3rd pc without a GPU with a unknown budget? That one with a i7 would be close to $500 without a GPU.

Here you go...

Two of these for your parents...

The board comes with lots of connectivity options, overclocking potential and features like superior audio codec with headphone amps, bluetooth and wifi.

No, he wants 3 PC's. Two at $500-700 (not sure if that's each or total) for his parents, and a third one with a strong CPU for his brother.

Sorry I wasn't so clear. $500-700 each. Then just some parts, not the full build like CPU, CPU cooler, Ram, Motherboard, not gonna get him a case or GPU and stuff like that, he can get those himself. And yea, he will be gaming and stuff on it.

Thanks for all the help!

Check my post above. It has what you want.

Thanks for the help Hellfire13, I really appreciate it! Just a question but how does like an i3 compare to the CPU you linked? I can always refuse my parent's current existing HDD so I can save a bit of money there and upgrade some of the other parts.

Thanks! This is more of what I was leaning towards even if there are unused potentials based on what she does.

Just to throw a dirty great spanner in the works , the ryzen 2200g is due out in 2 weeks.
A fully fledged quad core ryzen 3 running at 3.7ghz with built in vega graphics.
& it can be run on a $50-60 board.

https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/amd/ryzen_3/2200g

Expect it to take a big market share when it releases because imo it deserves to.

Dropped the ryzen 1200 as a placeholder as the 2200g should be roughly the same price.

Sorry but I'm reading up on the Ryzen 3 2200 vs the i3-8100 and I don't understand what burst for the built in graphics mean. The Ryzen runs vega graphics at 1.1ghz while the i3-8100 runs at 350mhz with a burst of 1.1ghz. What does that mean?

It honestly means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Irregardless of speeds the graphics on the 2200 are looking to be twice as strong as the intel igp.

Not really the reason I dropped it in as an option, for a general desktop tbeyre glingnro be very very similar performance wise imo.

The ryzen option (on total platform cost) wpuld save you $70-80 - thats the main reason for my comment.
