Looking to build a decent tower and I need advice !

Hi folks,
It's time to replace my emachines wind-up computer.My knowledge of computers is second to anyone that made it through third grade so I need help! It will be used for pretty basic tasks, I'm not a gamer. I download and burn music & videos,get my news and do some shopping. It will be running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit. I can assemble the components but selecting them is beyond me. I'd like to spend around 300.00 but could go up to 400.00 if I had to. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
