Hi, brand new to this forum. Looking to build an Alienware 14 w/Haswell i5 & 2GB nvida 750. However, I would like some recommendations on a reliable and fast SSD for the main storage. Dell now sells the Samsung Pro 256GB, right on their own site - little pricey. Appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks & appreciated.

You're welcome. It's a very popular SSD and that's because it's arguably the fast SSD for the price. I own one myself.

Great links, Barto, all favorable! Do you think it is a notch up on the Samsung 840 Pro, & the Intel 530, both are 256GB devices. Certainly, the Evo, is more price efficient. Also, I do a lot of manuscript work - books.

I normally recommend Samsung ssd's. They perform exceptionally well and have a proven track record. Intel and Plextor are also worth considering. Recently the new SansDisk ssd has made a good showing.

I maintain the ssd database listed in a sticky at the very top of this forum section. Here is the link:

Scroll down to the brands and models you are interested in and follow the links to the technical reviews.

If you are in the USA you can check prices at newegg.com, amazon.com, and logicbuy.com. Logicbuy keeps track of sale prices and updates the prices every day.

Thanks, genuinely appreciated. Just starting to enter into the field of SSD's, so I hope to make some good decisions. Also, hoping to future proof the machine as much as possible.
