So its been awhile since I have been on tom's forums but alot of people helped me here in the past when I built my first gaming rig and I am hoping to get some advice.

I am looking to build a computer using the Ryzen 9 5900x CPU.

The only parts I have available I would like to salvage is my Coolmaster HAF-X case.

I was looking at parts but I am not sure if this is a good place to start or if someone can suggest something to me.

Hoping to buy all the parts from my local canada computers store where I live.

I am mostly building this computer for gaming and I would like to have something that will have be a bit future proof and provide longevity.

I did look at some parts I have listed below but I haven't build a computer in a long time and have no idea if this would be a good place to start:

Mostly looking at ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E vs ASUS TUF GAMING X570-Plus but not sure which is the better dollar vs performance.

CPU: AMD RYZEN 9 5900X ($559.00 @ CanadaComputers $30.00 coupon = $529.00)
RAM: GSKILL Trident Z RGB SERIES 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600Mhz CL18 1.35v DUAL channel Desktop Memory Kit ($114.00 @CanadaComputers)
PSU: CORSAIR RMx Series RM850X Gold PLUS PSU ($159.99 @CanadaComputers)

MOBO 1: ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming MOBO ($399.99 @Canadacomputers)
MOBO 2: ASUS TUF GAMING X570-Plus Motherboard (248.99 @Canadacomputers)
Graphics Card: Unsure what is good now a days to use any suggestions?

Approximate Purchase Date: March 30 2022

Budget Range: $2000 to $2500

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Watching Videos, Internet

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: Would like to reuse my Coolmaster HAF-X gaming case

Do you need to buy OS: No (Will be using Windows 10 64-bit edition)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.canadacomputers.com

Location: Ontario///Canada

Parts Preferences: Unsure

Overclocking: Yes I would like overclocking to be available if I decide to down the road but currently would like to run computer at stock speeds.

SLI or Crossfire: Yes would like to have it in case I do decide to down the road to do SLI or Crossfire but I would just prefer to use a single GPU at the moment.

Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

Your Monitor Resolution: Using a 24 inch BENQ B2420HDB Monitor with 1920x1080 Screen Resolution

Additional Comments: Will be using the computer to play steam games, Counterstrike: Go, first person shooters and any high demanding gaming titles down the road.

SLI / dual gpu's is dead as in it hasn't been supported for a few years now and it's not coming back. It's all about one single gpu these days. You want to use Windows 11 with these new Intel 12 gen cpu's seeing how it will get you anywhere from 10 - 20 more FPS in games. This build meant for gaming at 1080P.

I'd be looking at a gaming monitor with IPS panel + G-Sync + high refresh rate so that you can take advantage of all the goodness these new Nvidia RTX 30XX series cards have to offer. MSI and Asus make decent gaming monitors with all of the above that won't break the bank.

Here's one for an example.

RTX 2060 for a new build with the OP's budget?

are you trying to game at 1080 or 1k or 2k or 4k? at 1080 gaming you can use gpus that have been out for like almost ten years i want to say .
if you want to game higher than that then you would need something released in the past year or 2.

i edit videos more than i game so i decided to get the best cpu with the most cores available . I was buying during covid and i managed to get a Ryzen 9 3950X Matisse 3.5GHz 16-Core and a good mb and 32 gbs of ddr4 ram and a 1 tb m2 drive. my graphics card is a 5500 radeon amd yeah not so great but i can still edit 4k videos no problem. all my gaming is done at 1080 120 to 144 hz so im good for now not planning on changing that anytime soon.

Look at the games the OP plays ... first person shooters. Those games benefit from Frames Per Second.
CSGO is a rather CPU intensive game. GPU power does not contribute much. Its pretty light.

This is a more comprehensive upgrade where you can use your existing monitor as 2nd screen...

Thanks for everyone that responded. It seems I have alot to think about.

I would be happy with 1080p to be honest.

Basically if I was to make a system from scratch should I be considering first a Intel Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 5900x?

If I was considering the i7-12700k is a motherboard that supports DDR5 memory better to go with?

And thanks Hellfire13 and Why_Me for the response on the build ideas you presented they really helped.

They are both similar in terms of performance. The 12700K might be marginally better in some games due to faster IPC, but 5900X has more performance cores. They are both similarly priced. You can't go wrong either way.
As for DDR5, its not matured enough yet at current price to performance ratio. You won't be missing much there.

1. 1080P is more than fine with your budget, especially with the games you play (first person shooters). You'll see on other threads where people recommend high resolution monitors for average graphics cards and that right there tells me they don't play first person shooter games such as CoD, BF, etc .. where frames per second is a must.

2. Not only does the 12700F beat the 5900X in gaming, it does it for cheaper. Also these Intel 600 series boards will support Intel's upcoming 13 gen cpu's.

3. Granted DDR5 is the future but it also adds substantially to the cost of the build not to mention DDR5 lags in gaming atm vs DDR4 due to its high latency.
