Alright guys, so this is my first post on Tom's but i've been an avid reader for a few years now. I am the point where I want to building a new PC so i'm turning to you guys to get some help as i'm a bit rusty on what's what nowadays. Here goes:
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Early - Mid June BUDGET RANGE: ~1700$-1800$ CAD (Not set in stone so i'm open to upgrade paths that may require a bit more $$$ upfront)
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, web surfing, watching movies & burning homemade DVD's
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard/mouse/speakers
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.ca
PARTS PREFERENCES: AMD, Asus & Corsair a preference but i'm open to building a core i7 rig if it fits the bill
OVERCLOCKING: Yes SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Yes
MONITOR RESOLUTION: Whatever would make sense on a 22" or 24" LCD
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
A few things i'd like to point out. First off i've been hearing things about AM3 being dropped by next year so i'm wondering if it's worthwhile going towards something like a Phenom II X4 955 with DDR3 Ram on an ASUS AM3 board but if i'm shooting myself in the foot by doing so i'm all ears as to what you guys would suggest instead. I wouldn't mind going straight to crossfire and getting something like two hd4870's as long as they will sustain my gaming needs for a while. Regarding the OS i'm hearing mixed reviews about going to Windows 7 as opposed to Vista 64bit, am i better paying for Vista upfront to make sure i get solid drivers for the build or will i be ok getting Windows 7 for free now and pay for it before March 1st next year? Ram wise, would a 2x2GB kit be worthwhile so i can add on later or can i manage getting a 2x4GB without a huge price jump atm? Can't think of anything else off the bat but i'm sure you guys will point out whatever i've missed soon enough. Thanks in advance for the help!
