I'm looking to build with AM5 because its a platform that will be supported for a long time but I'm hearing about all the issues with Ram causing instability, system crashes, ect. and really not sure i want to deal with a bunch of issues, How widespread are those issues, and is this something that can be avoided, with the right combo of parts, or is it a gamble no matter what, or should i just wait a while? I'm looking for some advice on this. This will be my first AMD build and my first PC build in several years.

Thanks.

AMD always seems to have issues at first but eventually they get them worked out. What country are you located, what is your budget, what will be the primary uses of your PC, what is your monitor resolution and will you be reusing any components?

USA, haven't set an exact budget but probably about $2500 for the PC itself, Gaming, i would likely be purchasing a 4K Monitor, could play some stuff at 1440p as well, current monitor is 1080p, not really planning to reuse any parts. But the main thing i want to know about is the AM5 Ram instability issues i keep hearing about and how to avoid those issues.

I don't personally have an AM5 build but I'm sure someone who does will see this thread and be able to answer your questions. Just curious but what is your budget?

This gives you a rough idea of what you're looking at cost wise for gaming at 1440P.

I really do appreciate the effort in putting together the lists but i actually have some idea already what i want if i do go with AM5, given the previously mentioned issues. Plus it seems like we had some of the same ideas on parts too.

What i was thinking was this....

Case: Fractal Pop Air
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7700x or 7700
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler if i go with the X variant (could go cheaper here if need be), Stock cooler for non-X variant to save money.
MOBO: ASUS B650E-E or MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK (again depending on if the issues are Mobo related, the MSI board is also a little cheaper, both keep all the audio ports)
RAM: 32 GB DDR5 (not sure which due to the previously mentioned Ram issues) maybe G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5-6000 EXPO Ram?
Storage: 2TB SSD for Windows / 1 TB or 2 TB SSD for Linux (yes i plan to Dual Boot) 4 TB Game Drive (not sure which drives yet)
GPU: Radeon 6950 XT or Radeon 7900 XT or RTX 4070 TI
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 1000 GT or Corsair RM1000e (could maybe get by with less of a PSU but this is supposed to be a build that can be upgraded later, a 1000 watt PSU seems the safer bet)

I'm open to opinions of the parts i have picked but that's kinda what i was thinking, and should put me near the approx budget. But i haven't set anything in stone, Plus like i said i want to hear more on the issues with AM5, kinda to better know how common the issues are, and if there is certain part combos that would be best to avoid issues or if i'd be better off to avoid AM5 or wait.

I would suggest you stick with the AG620 @Why_Me suggested.

And i would also suggest sticking with 4070ti if u wanna use ray tracing. the only reason if you should consider the 6950XT is if its on a clearance sale.

I would also wait for the 7950X3D reviews and decide on the 7800X3D option instead. After release of 7800X3D, u might see discounts on the non 3D chips. so worth the wait if you ask me either way.

with DDR5 being new, some instability is to be expected. but it will get ironed out with bios updates. nothing wrong with the hardware itself.

Consider the 6900 XT, or the 6950 XT if you can find it for 600 or less, otherwise the 4070 ti is a much better value proposition, especially if you want to use any of the Nvidia specific features. I also highly recommend either waiting for the X3D chips to come out, or buy something now with the intent to return it within its return period for an X3D CPU.

Thanks guys, I'll keep that cooler in mind, might could save a few bucks there. With the GPU i was kinda thinking along the same lines, the 6950 XT was the lowest GPU i would consider if the price was right or if i needed to tighten my budget more, the 7900 XT was kinda where i was leaning, and the 4070 Ti would be the best option should i go with Nvidia. But I don't think Ray Tracing is something I'd miss that much and the 7900 XT out performs the 4070 ti otherwise.

The plan for me regardless was to wait at least till after the X3D CPUs launch if for no other reason, maybe prices drop on the others. Plus it gives me time to more accurately figure out how widespread the issues are, and maybe for them to be fixed with bios updates and such, so, right now i was trying to gather info on the AM5 issues before i make final decisions. Was hoping some who are using AM5 would drop by the thread and share their experiences, and with what part combos they were using.

Also regarding the case, the Lancool 216 was mentioned and recommended, i think it's a really nice case and i'd probably recommend it as an option too, but a couple things that are mostly just my preferences, first, it costs a little more than the Pop Air, not a huge deal, but still, plus i do like the optical drive support the Pop has, while optical drive support isn't a requirement for me, its nice to have, and i'll probably use it. The other thing is i guess i'm more old school in terms of PC cases, i prefer the steel side panel over a window., The Pop Air has that option. So that's why i'm leaning toward the Pop Air over the Lancool 216 and other cases. Nothing wrong with the Lancool 216 though, looks like a solid case.
