Hello, I'm looking to buy a decent quality laptop for just recreational use. Any recommendations of brands I should go with?

And I'm not a gamer so it doesn't need to be super fast, and I'd like to spend below $500.00

Here's a good deal on a 15.6" Lenovo G50-80 laptop with a current generation Core i5-5200u CPU for $400.

If you want something a bit more portable then there's the 13.3" Asus Flip TP300LA-UB52T for $498. It uses the slightly older 4th generation Core i5-4210u CPU, it has a 1920x1080 touchscreen, and the keyboard can be flipped around so that you can use like a tablet (similar to a Lenovo Yoga). Intel's 5th gen CPUs are only marginally more powerful than 4th gen CPUs. But the 5th gen integrated graphics core provides a little more performance (about 15%), though that does not make any difference for average daily use...
