Looking to buy a graphics card to get back into computer gaming!

Looking to buy a graphic card sometime within the next month and i'm not really trying to spend more than $300.

Would like to play Battlefield 3 on high with at least 60 fps, but i'm also curious on cards that will support it at ultra with at least 60 fps. I'm not into the whole 30 fps bull because i'll go play xbox if I want that.

I prefer a card that goes hand in hand with AMD chipsets so NVIDIA cards are out of the question. newegg.com is my prefered site.

If you are looking for an AMD card to play BF3 on ultra @60fps then the hd7870 is a good option. At your resolution i (1600x900) it will play the game on ultra close to or at 60FPS.

^^ This one is a hd7870 XT edition, it has the toned down GPU of a hd7950 at the price of a regular hd7870. Its more powerful then the regular hd7870, it has a non reference cooler, and two free games come included.

The hd7870 XT is also powerful enough to handle games at 1920x1080 if you plan to upgrade your monitor in the future. The regular hd7870 is also a very good card, and will also meet your needs, but the XT version is a better deal.

the test set up in those posted links above heavily out weigh the OP's system.

perhaps a 6770 for cross firing with the APU? Don't expect 60fps.

If you want that you need to completely rethink a new build. ( i5-i7 )

That CPU isn't that great for gaming - acceptable, but if you're looking for 60fps in demanding games, you'll need an i5. You could get the card you want now, and save up for a platform upgrade. The HD 7870 XT is good for the money, and the GTX 660 and 660Ti are as well.

my bad, didn't take note of the A6 APU. So yes, as swifty_morgan said it would be optimal to build a new pc, but you should still be able to game on your system, however not at those settings. Cross-firing a hd6770 with the APU would mean that you would have to tone down the settings and you could run into problems in a crossfire configuration. Usually upgrading a pre-built OEM machine (like your HP) is not the best way to get a gaming pc. You can still game on it, but building your own pc is always the best option for gaming.

You could get the hd7870 and a new power supply, and in the future you could build your own machine and then use that PSU and GPU.
