Hello, I am looking to buy a new router to replace the router that my ISP has provided. I am not knowledgeable when it comes to routers, so I came here for help. My router doesn't have the feature to throttle the bandwidth used by specific devices. Because with the router im using right now, I get lag on CSGO ( game i play a lot ) Everytime my sister is on a call with her friends on the internet, and sometimes the connection with steam just drops and i can't do anything about it except block her phone's MAC address on the router. So to sum it all up, I want a router that i can game on without having to worry about lag when im gaming.

ALSO: I hope it doesn't cost more than $100

( Sorry for bad English, it is not my first language )

Wireless is almost never a good solution for gaming due to the increased latency.

Your current router will work fine if you use (1) an Ethernet cable, or (2) if that is not possible use a pair of AV1200 or higher powerline adapters. THIS is a great source for accurate information on various PL adapter. Don't get any older AV2 or lower models though -- stick with AV1200 for high bandwidth low latency connections good for gaming or HD streaming.

What bandwidth speeds do you have (upload and download) from your internet provider? I ask because if your upload seeds (from your home to the Internet) are not sufficient, a new router may not help much.

That said, there plenty of routers at all price levels that offer QoS (Quality of Service) configuration. This should allow you to prioritize traffic in your home, and if necessary cap traffic levels for specific devices. The thing to keep in mind about QoS at the router is that setting it up is not a "plug and play" operation. You will likely need to do some experimentation to find the configuration that works best for you.

Another feature in these routers is "Parental Control" which could be used to deny access to certain devices at certain times. This would be a harsh way to deal with your problem though, and the rest of the folks in your home would not like it.
