I was looking at getting a new storage drive as I am running out of space. I was trying to decide between a western digital black 1TB drive or some 500gb SSD. The drive will primarily be used for games. I am open to any recommendations though and appreciate any input you guys have to offer

'Worth' can only be determined by you.
I wouldn't sacrifice some other part just to get the 850 EVO vs the MX300.
But its a good drive, with a good track record.
All depends on size needs and budget.
If you need more than 400GB, the 1TB HDD would seem to be the solution.
If a 11TB SSD is outside the budget, the 1TB HDD would again be the solution.

What is your current drive situation?

I've slowly transitioned all my systems to SSD only. My main system has 5 drives, approx 2TB total.
All the spinning drives live in the NAS box.

I'm looking to spend somewhere around $150

Then that would either be a 500GB SSD or a 2TB WD Black.
All depends on your personal size requirements.

I dont think ill need more than 500 gb what ssd do you recommend

The WD is still too new for any history. It might be great, it might suck.
The 850 EVO is over your budget, which is why I recommended the other 2.

m.2?
"m.2" is merely (usually) the interface. A SATA III drive is the same speed is a m.2 SATA drive.
Just in a different package.

An NVMe m.2 drive is indeed faster, but significantly over your budget. And not needed for a secondary drive.

Would it be worth the extra $20 for the samsung evo 850

do you think its worth the extra $25-30 for the 850 evo personally
