I'm wondering if it will fit my board. I have an ASRock B250m-HDV: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B250M-HDV/index.asp
And I'm looking at this CPU: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Core-i7-7740X-4-30-2066/dp/B072KTRQ9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514535814&sr=8-1&keywords=i7+7740x
I'm not really sure that the board will support the CPU. If not what would be a better, but cheap-ish board (if possible £300 max)

Also, the seller says it doesn't come with a cooler for it, so what would the best cooler for this be?

Many thanks!

for your 300 pounds (~$405) you could buy an i7-7700 that is a little bit of overkill for your current board, or an i5-7500 or 7600k for around $200 US. The next step up would be a z270 motherboard so you could overclock a i7-7700k or i5-7600k. Beyond that, you're into the 8th gen Coffee Lake processors, and stuff starts getting really expensive.

I need a new asus board anyway so I may just buy this one I found after about 2 hours of researching:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/TUF-X299-MK2-Intel-Motherboard/dp/B072V53HB3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514537561&sr=8-1&keywords=asus%2Btuf%2Bx299&th=1

Worth it?

it says this:
Intel® Core™ X-series Processors (6-core above)
8 x DIMM, Max. 128GB, DDR4 4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/2666/2400/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Intel® Core™ X-series Processors (4-core)
4 x DIMM, Max. 64GB, DDR4 4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/2666/2400/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
* Hyper DIMM support is subject to the physical characteristics of individual CPUs.
* Refer to www.asus.com for the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).

So I take that it works! thanks!

There will be a specific page for cpu compatability as well.
