I have been needing new RAM for years now, but I am not exactly rolling in cash, and so I've been getting by.
I have a mid-tier PC, and I use it mainly for gaming. I only have threeGB of RAM, and somehow I've been scraping by just with that, and games have been running far better than I ever thought they would.
I have an i7 960, and I am not computer savvy at all really, but from what I understand, that is still a decent CPU. Task Manager rarely ever shows it getting used much, and I've not had any problems with it.
My GPU is an Nvidia Geforce GTX 650. It was an upgrade from my previous Radeon card (Don't remember what it was) but after a couple of months of use, I've been having trouble with it. It seems to be a relatively common problem with the card, kernal errors with the drivers, loss of connection with the monitor, that sort of thing. I've managed to fix the problem, so far as I can tell, by using MSIAfterburner to raise the core voltage by 12, and lower the Clock Speed by about 80. Again, I do not know much about computer hardware, but I get the impression that is not ideal. So, as a side note, if anyone knows any good GPUs in the $100-200 range, please do tell.
But, I digress. Iam here for RAM.
I have a Giga-Byte X58A-UD3R Motherboard, and I have had it for several years now. I've seen a lot of reviews about it failing after 4-5 years, but I don't think I am having any issues with it. I'll get a Blue Screen every now and then, but that could be a bunch of other problems too. I have six slots for RAM, and right now I have three Gigs of Corsair RAM. I don't know exactly what information you folks would need to help me out, so I will provide some screenshots of CPU-Z, and see if you can help me. http://imgur.com/a/i1SgD
So far, the RAM I am thinking of purchasing to upgrade is this here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231230
It's in my price range, and the reviews are pretty good so far.
So, my three main questions are, firstly, will this RAM work with my system? Secondly, will it be compatible with my current RAM, so that I can utilize all six slots and have 9GB of RAM?
Thirdly, has anyone here had any prior experience with this RAM? Any issues?
