Mobo: Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 7 Rev 1
I have both m.2 slots occupied with identical Samsung 950 pro 250gb nvme drives.
one drive is for the OS (windows 10 pro). The other drive is for game applications.
I have a 1TB m.2 on order to get more storage available.
I cannot remember which drive has my OS and which has my games. Is there a way to identify which slot on my motherboard the OS drive is inserted?
THanks for any help.

In your motherboard Bios you'll find the M2 SSD drives listed under different M.2 prefixes :
- M2D = top M.2 Slot and
- M2H = Bottom M.2 Slot

Where to look in the Bios :
*Peripheral > NVme configuration
*Bios Features> boot options and Hard drives priority

How to differentiate which SSD ?
- windows boot loader" attached to the M.2 SSD model name that carries the Operating system.
- Difference in the names/model of the drive names and their capacity.

OP already stated that the two drives were identical models and capacities.
