Looking to Optimize

Hi there, first time poster and kind of a newbie at customizing my computer to its fullest abilities. I recently purchased a Compaq TFT7020, mostly due to this boards seemingly high satisfaction with it, and want to make it look its best. So far I've changed the resolution to 1280 by 1024, changed the dpi to 120, set refresh to 60hz and messed with the brightness a tad. I'm using DVI and not analog connections as well. Is there anything else that should be done, or is that the extent of the optimization.

This is all on a new computer with windows XP
Athlon 2000
Geforce 3 ti500
Thanks and I look forward to your comments

For it to be easiest on teh eyes when doing typing, stuff like that, I reccomend very low brightness (10, 20), and Contrast between 40 and 70.

Only if you let me see the Umpa Lumpa- Homer Simpson.

Just purchased from triocomputers.com
Price at the time was $780 I believe w/ free shipping

Go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/cleartypeactivate.htm?fname= &fsize=

and enable ClearType. It will make all of your fonts look much cleaner.

Ew ew ew! Cleartype should go to hell! It only makes fonts look worse- when I have fonts, I want em as crisp as possible, not fuzzy from cleartype. I got my monitor directly from Compaq, at $645. (Free 1st day air shipping:)).

Only if you let me see the Umpa Lumpa- Homer Simpson.

flame, we know you got yours for 645, kind of illigally, but the good think is that a close friend of my brother is a teacher in college so she will hook me up with the good price, but the problem then is that she lives in eastcoast and im in west... so i dont know what i should do. but i wont worry, i get the monitor later

A first! we agree on something
I also do not like "clear type"

as for optimize your lcd, there really isn't much you can do, you can do the true color thingy, but most web page don't really support that!
as for brightness, it all depend on your envirnoment, if your room is darken or next to a bright window! your setting can go very extreme both way!
I believe 60hz is just standard for dvi, nothing you can do/adjust to improve or degrade!
contrast is important, but then it all depend on what you feel comfortable!
adjust color is important, but you do need some kind of color card or calbration program to be accurate!

Question for the people using an LCD with digital interface: Does cleartype seem to have slight fringes of color on the fonts? M$ says higher dpi is better and also to use a digital interface. I want to know if it is the high dpi or the digital interface that eliminates the color fringes. Perhaps a combination of both?

clear type is only anti aliasing for fonts. It basically smooths everything out a little bit, but for some reason people think it just blurs everything. I personally can't tell much of a difference between clear type on or off, but when its on I just "feel" it looks better (placebo effect maybe)
