I'm a gamer, who mostly plays WoW, but I do pick up other, more PC intensive, titles on occasion (Here's looking at you, Wolfenstein!). I would like a rig that can chew through WoW on max settings and give me 50-60 fps at 1080p or 1440p all around. I'm considering the following...
- I'd like to pick up either a RTX 2060 Super or 2070 Super for starters.
- I've been Intel all my life, and would take some persuading to switch, but it's not out of the question. My last desktop CPU purchase was an i5-3570K, so there's been a lot to hit the market since and I really need help finding a sweet fit that isn't overkill and wasting money. The i7-9700K seems like a solid choice but, again, will need guidance.
- I would like to run 32GB of dual-channel RAM (is quad better for any reason?). The max speed (e.g. DDR4-2400) is determined by the CPU alone? Or does the Motherboard have to be taken into consideration as well?
- I'll probably use an M.2 SSD and a good ol' WD 1TB Black/Blue as storage. Suggestions on the SSD? I look at benchmarks and am never sure what I should be aiming for.
- Let's use an ATX board, I'm done with trying to build m-ATX systems. I don't want to have to worry about airflow.
- Not sure if I'd overclock. Potentially the GPU, and maybe the CPU, but I always worry about shortening their lifespan.
- PSU: Well, yeah, it'll depend.
- I ballparking things at this point, so let's say my budget is $1000-$1500. I'll figure out the case/monitor outside this budget as I have some spares and may decide to use those.
Let me know if you have any questions. All constructive advice is welcome!
Thanks!
