I built an AMD 1055T a while back (approx 2010) and it's looking like the old girl is gonna be put out to pasture soon. So now I'm at a cross roads. I am going to need to obviously upgrade my MoBo, and probably my Memory as well.
I have like 4 HDDs and an AMD 290x (which doesn't play nice with my CPU sometimes).
Anyways the crossroads is this. I can afford to go Intel i7 and have narrowed it down to three choices as Microcenter has three within range of one another. The 4790k, 5820k, 6700k and loosely the 6800k (which makes four but whatever). I don't mind paying for either of the first three, and the 6800k is a long shot. I also see AMD has decided to come out of the woodwork with an AM4 chipset soon. I am more brand loyal to AMD however my fanboism isn't a matter here.
I like Devil's canyon and my buddy has the 4770K and loves it. The 4790K is intriguing and seems like it will have a good longevity. The 5820K piques my interest being a hexacore, but lack of integrated graphics turns me off a bit (I like having a back-up in the event a card goes). The 6700K seems like a step up from the 4790K but I don't know if the step is worth it, more-over I really don't know the difference. AM4 is intriguing and I wouldn't mind moving on to the next AMD from my Phenom II, of course as long as their Zen is a better update than Bulldozer was from AM3+.
Long story short:
Non-pressing upgrade soon. Narrowed it currently down to three processors but don't mind waiting for AM4. Budget is like 500-700 all in. Looking for the best bang for my buck. Thanks!
