Looking to refresh or scrap 7 year old build - need advice

Nov 18, 2018
Looking to update my 7 year old build and wanted some opinions and info to narrow my choices. One thing to note is I never really built it properly and dont use the case cover so it just has 1 half side open to the air, the CPU idles at 45-50 and under load of a game it runs at about 90. I know they say this isnt healthy but its been like that for years. Although I wonder if it means higher risk of my CPU or PSU dying out earlier then expect which would be a case for me to just scrap everything.

CPU - i7-2600k no overclocking stock cooler
GPU - Gigabyte Geforce GTX 560 ti
RAM - 8 GB (2x4) Corsair ddr3 1600 mhz
MOBO - GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD4H https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128583

So a few questions I had

1. do you think keeping my processor and upgrading the GPU and RAM alone will be sufficient for most games at reasonable settings?

2. Will going from 8gb 1600 mhz to 16gb at 2400 mhz help much? or should I just go all the way and get ddr4. I am unsure of how to weigh this

3. Is my motherboard even able to support the newer GPUs and ram? I believe it cannot support a new processor even if I wanted to upgrade that because its LGA 1155 vs 1151 for the 8th gens.

what I was looking to do is go for a gtx 1050 ti for 100$. And 16 gun ddr3 240 MHz ram for also 100$

Thanks for the help!
