My PSU is a Thermaltake TR2 600w, It's about 5+ years old.
The fan has started to die, lots of whirring, sounds tired.
I can tap on the case to make the noise stop occasionally.

I did some googling and figure I need a 120mm fan but learned that I may pick one up that requires too much power from my psu to run correctly that I should match rpms etc.

I just need some help figuring out this last part, i'm not sure how to find the information i need.
Any help is appreciated. ty

It could be related, but it also may very well not be as the 1650 isn't all that power-hungry.

It just feels like not a great idea to replace the fan, because then you're out the cost of the fan and the work to replace the fan on a PSU which was never particularly good quality when it was new. Hence JG's post which made me chuckle.

(Though in fairness, the Ford Fiesta ST was a fun little hatch)

Surprised it lasted that long. Time for a new PSU.

Second, this old, mediocre PSU should be replaced. Is that an option for you?

This.

You're looking for advice akin to looking for suggestions on what style BBS rims to put on your Ford Fiesta.

First, it is not recommended to disassemble a PSU and muck around inside it. This can be dangerous and result in harm to you.

I am an electrical college graduate, in my case I have the confidence to do this safely

Good on you though to warn brave DIY'ers about the hazards of doing this.

Edit : I have my trusty multimeter ready to go! lol

It moderately is, money is tight with the current social sitatuions.
but could it be why my new gtx 1650 is giving me output issues?
I made another post trying to figure out why this card keeps giving me solid color screens Here
