Looking to upgrade but need help

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and my Graphics card so they can run the latest games more specifically GTA 5, the problem is my motherboard isn't the best and I want to know what I can get to for under $500 without buying a new motherboard. My specs are:
Mobo: 960GM-GS3 FX
CPU: AMD FX 4100
Graphics card: AMD HD 7700
PSU: 650w
I've been looking at the AMD FX 8320 as a CPU and for the GPU I was looking at either something like the 970 or r9 290.
Any advice and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Yes your suggestion is very good you choose all parts perfecty and you can pay all games you need.!!!!! but your mobo is not capable for fx 8320 for fx 8320 go for 990fx chipset it is the best for 8320. Upgrade your mobo for 990fx mobo/970 chipset mobo good for in budget!!
The r9 290 is good for gaming and the processor is very good you choose octa core it is best for your choice!!
