Im looking into upgrading my current cpu, FX-8320, to the much better, i7-6700k,
(is that a good upgrade? Just wondering....)
but im currently stuck on what motherboard i should buy. There are a huge variety of options, but i dont want to spend too much, but if its worth it i will.

I would like an all around best option, so easy bios, easy overclocking, etc...

The reason why im jumping now is because the i7 is currently 150$ off on ebay, and for a little while. from $550 - $400 CDN.

Msi GeForce GTX 970
AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core Proccesor 3.5 GHz
16gb DRR3 Ram (2x4gb +1x8gb --- 3 sticks)
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R5 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
850W ULTRA Power Supply
1TB WD HDD
250GB SSD
ThermalTake Commander MS-I PC Case

Also my gtx 970 is still pretty good right? The i7 wont bottleneck it, or vice versa?

You really can't go wrong with any board that is z170 or z270. Just pick what you think looks the best and has features you want. Gigabyte has dual bios on their boards meaning if your bios gets corrupted somehow (virus, failed bios update...) your motherboard won't get bricked. Asus has their xonar audio drivers that offer the best sound quality out of all the mobo manufacturers and Msi are advertising their "military" build quality. I have no personal experiences with Msi or Asrock but with Asus and Gigabyte i can say that both are good choices.

I really hate the term "bottleneck". There are games that use more cpu than gpu and vice versa. "bottlenecking" really just depends on what you play and at what resolution.
