Hey y’all, self explanatory post.

Specs of current PC

MSI GTX 980 ti
I5 6600k
MSI z170a Gaming m7
G.skill trident z ram 16gb 3200 ghz
Kraken x61
WD Black 1tb
HyperX Savage 240gb SSD

leaning forward a CPU + Motherboard upgrade as load is at 100% quite often during multi-tasking/gaming

but any other suggestions for future proofing is welcome, thanks!

Given the GPU market, I would suggest keeping 'most of' your system and replace the mobo/CPU/drive with something 12th gen Intel. Your RAM kit would work fine with it. Ryzen would be an option but you could be leaving some performance on the table in regard to the 3200 speed.

I went from an i5 7600k to a ryzen 5 5600x, the best choice I made. Depending on your budget, if you have A LOT then go for the new top-of-the-line dogs like the 12th gen i7's. However, I think the 5600x is a great choice. It's cheap and you can easily pick up a second-hand x570 motherboard for half retail which is what I did. Got the asus x570 gaming f.
