I am looking to upgrade my computer. What would give the best performance increase, and what are some suggestions.

You need a change in platform. Ryzen or new Intel.

Because FX is a dead end at this point and nothing is worth upgrading in your current setup.

That's up to you , Ryzen is out there now on the AMD side or Intel if your looking to switch. Both of them require new cpu , motherboard and DDR4 memory.

Upgrade paths are better on newer platforms.
