Looking to upgrade CPU and MOBO (Gaming PC) what should I do?

Hey guys!

Im looking at upgrading my pc and im looking at either switching over from the amd side and going for intel or staying at amd.

Current system specs:

CPU: Amd fx-6300
MOBO: Asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
RAM: Corsair Vengance Blue 1600mhz 8gb DDR3
GPU: PNY Gtx 770 2gb
SSD: Samsung 840 120gb
HDD: WD Black 1tb
PSU: Coolermaster 600w

I mainly use my pc for gaming and i have recently started live streaming so i wanted to uprade my cpu and to do that i would need to upgrade my mobo so..

Amd Side: Im looking at getting maybe an 8350 or the 9590?
Intel side: I have no clue because I havent been in the market for a cpu in a while 😛
Mobo: I dont really look at all the bells and whistles of the new mobo's so I dont know, just want good reliability and maybe some OC options. (No brand preference)

Budget: Im looking at no more then 500 for the cpu and mobo but would like to spend less if possible (Maybe in the 300-400 range) I also may want a cpu cooler (air or liquid) so if you could factor that in the price that would be cool too.

I would switch over to Intel if you are willing to spend the money. The i5-4690k, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and Asrock Z97 Extreme4 is a good combination.

Oh, i forgot to add that i also have a cpu cooler atm for my 6300, its a Zalman cnps5x Preforma its works pretty well!

This represents an enormous improvement. Right now you don't really need more than the i5 4690K for most games however a growing number of newer games (badly ported from consoles) are asking for an i7. I think this trend is going to continue and, as it's within your budget, the i7 seems the best choice. I've also put a link to the i5 chip at the bottom though so you can compare the prices.

I will most likely go with the i7 and the Asus Mobo for future proofing, will my cpu cooler be okay for this cpu? Will i need to get the 212 EVO?

And i was wondering if there was a market for used cpu's and mobo's because i have nothing to do with my old ones?

Someone will definitely buy your old kit on eBay, the fx6300 is still good as a low budget option.

You can see how your cooler manages if you like and upgrade to the hyper evo if you're unhappy with the temperature. The hyper evo is a solid choice for overclocking the i7

Do the intel cpu's run hot? If not then i think my cooler will by fine because it keeps my cpu at a nice temp under load.

No they don't really but it varies from chip to chip when overclocked. You could just keep the cpu at stock though if you're happy with the performance and then overclock in the future when it needs a boost.

I will try it for a while with no OC but if i feel like i want more preformance then ill try some slight overclocks!
