I agree there is not point in upgrading to another FX series CPU. Your board can't really handle an FX-8350 and even if it could it's still a slow processor compared to today's CPUs.

Upgrading to a Ryzen CPU will require a motherboard and RAM upgrade, but that's okay considering the performance increase and the upgradeability for the future.

Comparison - Ryzen 3 1200 vs FX-8350 http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-3-1200-vs-AMD-FX-8350/3931vs1489

This is what you will need. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($109.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI - B350M PRO-VDH Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($74.98 @ SuperBiiz)...
1.) You did not say what you want to do with this system.

2.) You did not mention your current CPU. We cannot recommend an upgrade for the same socket if we do not know what you are wanting to upgrade from.

3.) It's likely not recommended to upgrade to an AM3+ socket CPU anyway, as they are very old and much slower than anything new for around the same price.

IT is NOT WORTH IT to upgrade having that board, I don't even think you can overclock or get a stronger CPU and even still

Wether you have a phenom II CPU, a 4-core FX or an FX 8350 performance won't change a lot.

The AMD FX lineup didn't do very well when they came out and even nowadays many games aren't optimized for fully utilizing 6-8 cores so you will be held back by their very low single-core performance.

If you want a reasonable upgrade, I'd get a ryzen 3, a B350 motherboard and DDR4 memory but I think that's going to be more money than that. Which GPU do you have?

I would say upgrade your CPU but CPUs are too pricey currently so ryzen 3 is the best choice
