Hi Guys, as the title says, I want to upgrade my processor from AMD Athlon X4 750K Quad Core to AMD FX-6350 Six-Core.

Currently I have 16gb Kingston Hyper X fury and a Sapphire R270x toxic boost but I still get a bit of lag running streams/playing games at the same time so I figured it was my processor (I upgraded the Graphics card and RAM myself) I'm kinda new to making computers etc this is my first project kidna thing.

Not 100% sure on my motherboard.

My question is, with the "socket type" being FM2 and the FX-6350 being AM3+ does this mean I can't upgrade? I'm just a little confused as I noticed this in a comparison.

Any other suggestions are also cool, looking to keep the costs down a bit still thought.

Thanks in advance!~

Matt

To upgrade, you will needs to replace your motherboard. The FX6300 will not fit in the socket on your motherboard. The Athlon X4 860K is the fastest CPU you can fit in the socket that you have. It is about 300Mhz faster. How much have you overclocked your existing chip and exactly what motherboard do you have?

If you do replace your motherboard, you might also have to replace your Operating System which is often keyed specifically to the motherboard and cannot be re-used or transferred.

Hi Donkey,

Thanks so much for your reply I really appreciate it. I also appreciate you mentioning the fastest CPU I can get too!

Edit: Just found my motherboard! Gigabyte F2A58M-HD2

I haven't overclocked as I've really no Idea how to, I've googled it but so many guides I don't understand/scared to do it etc. Do you have one you can suggest?

Once again thanks so much :)

gigabyte tells you which processors you can use on that board, along with the BIOS version that is needed. you can update the BIOS yourself easily, and need to do it before you swap the processor

as to overclocking, there's plenty of guides on how to do it either for your specific processor or for your specific board. i'd search by board, since it might be more limiting than the processor when it comes to how much you can overclock.
