I am looking to upgrade my GPU from a Radeon HD 6670 to something that will be able to run higher-end games, but I know nothing about swapping individual components in my computer.

I would like to know if there are any compatibility issues between newer Radeon and GeForce 9x graphics cards.

I have saved a profile of my computer components. In addition to the information in the report, I have a Thermaltake TR2 600w PSU.

Please help me figure out what I need to do to keep my machine in good working order!

Brief computer profile follows, and I can provide additional information as needed:

Solution
I would suggest an R9 270/370 then at most, any more powerful and your CPU may present a bottleneck. That should give you real boost in game performance. It takes one 6pin power connector and 600W PSU should be enough. If your PSU doesn't have that it could be connected to 2 Molex connectors for disks and one such adapter should come in the package.
Roughly equivalent to it from Nvidia is GTX 960 which needs even less power.

Hi CountMike,

Thanks for your reply. I'm leaning towards a newer Radeon simply because I have an AMD chipset, but nVidia cards look like the better deal overall.

My major concern is with my PSU --- specifically, I'm not sure if it has any additional cabling to plug directly into a newer GPU.

CountMike,

Thanks so much for your advice and recommendations. I guess it is a bit of a pipe dream to imagine playing DOOM or other high-end games on my rig, but still your recommendation perfectly meets my stated needs. I very much appreciate you taking the time to reply.
