Hello everybody,

for about 2 years I have been using my good old 4300 and the time has come for an upgrade. The main question is should I stick with AMD and go for a FX 8350 or switch to Intel with less cores but more powerful ones. I only intend to play games, no video editing or anything related to it and I also plan to overclock my CPU. My current budget is about 300€ (could go up if a better component is worth it) but I would also like to purchase a new cooler and PSU to handle the OC.

Thanks

Yep looks like you can, you may or may not need to update your bios. As you said earlier I would upgrade the PSU, I have never heard of chieftec. Be careful on the CPU...

I currently have a SAPPHIRE R9 270 DUAL-X OC WITH BOOST 2GB GDDR5 (upgraded from HD 7770) but since I was on a lower budget this was the only GPU on the market that I was able to afford and now I'm looking to upgrade my CPU.

What's your estimate of years that it could handle future games?

I would go with the 8350, use the money you would save from that and save up a little bit more to get a stronger GPU. With your current GPU the 8350 is more than enough and money would be wasted on the intel CPU and motherboard upgrade.

Once again, this is if your current motherboard supports the upgrade, can you list off your full specs?

The current components that I have:
Motherboard: M5A97 R2.0
Graphics card: SAPPHIRE R9 270 DUAL-X OC WITH BOOST 2GB GDDR5
CPU: FX 4300 (using stock cooler)
Power supply: CHIEFTEC CTG-500-80P
Memory: G.SKILL RIPJAWS 2X4GB

Yep looks like you can, you may or may not need to update your bios. As you said earlier I would upgrade the PSU, I have never heard of chieftec. Be careful on the CPU cooler you get because you do have relatively large heat spreaders on your RAM which might get in the way of a large after market cooler. I think the Ripjaws will work fine with the hyper 212 (common low level cooler) but just do a little research before you pull the trigger.
