Looking to upgrade GPUs

I have approximately 430 to spend on a new card. Im currently running a Sapphire R9 280X. I play at 1080p on one screen, and I won't be upgrading to 4k, for a very long time, if ever. Recomendations? I'd really like to get a 980, but they're not anywhere that cheap. I don't really mind buying a used card either.

Nothing to upgrade that would be worth the money, a 970 won't be that much better and that's the only better card in your budget. You should get another 280X perhaps?

Don't buy another video card, just overclock the 280X a little and be happy. Aren't you getting ultra at 60fps with that card?

I am, this upgrade is more about future-proofing (as much as you can future proof) and power consumption. Nvidia's maxwell architecture is simply newer.

Then wait for the GTX 1000 series, future proofing a graphics card is pointless when you can buy a new one that works with your motherboard down the road.

Understandable. If I could get a 980 for that budget, would you still recommend that?

No, GTX 970 maximum for 1080P. GTX 970 is already overkill for 1080P and a gtx 980 would be useless.
