I was looking to upgrade my cpu. I wanted to ask if I'd notice any real difference to upgrade from a fx 6100 to the i5 4460. I have 16 gb 1600 corsair ram, and a Nvidia GTX 760 4gb FTW. I'm on a tight budget as of now. In the near future I was going to upgrade my GPU to a Zotac 970. I use my computer for mainly gaming and light browsing. I also have a another question With DX12 coming out will FX cpus have a real advantage over intel? I've read a lot on the subject but am not sure. Just wanted some educated opinions. Also is the FX 8350 noticeably better than the i5 4460 if OC'd?

Even my Phenom ii x4 970, which is little bit slower than FX 6100 in some cases, mostly can run games on high/medium settings 1080p with 50-60fps on average. But there are games like Battlefield where there is constant drop to 40fps or lower, in some maps or when action gets heavy. i5 4460 would show huge improvement on your minimum frame rate. That's why i'm upgrading to i5 4690k, as my current cpu more or less bottlenecks my R9 280 3GB gpu in most games.
An i5, overclocked 6300 or 8350 with an 760 will perform the same.

For the future 970, the i5 will be the faster option with the overclocked 8350.

Though if you are talking about "tight budget", I'd say buy an FX 8300 (yes, 8300), a CPU cooler and overclock that. What motherboard do you have ?

PS: Don't even think about the 970, it's a really bad value compared to the 390.
