[SOLVED] looking to upgrade my current pc

so guys I have an i5 6400 processor and a nvidia 1050 ti 4g and I was looking to upgrade one of this components, what should I upgrade first so that i get more performance? my budget is around 400 dollars. can you give me some sugestions?

That then snag a used 6700/6700k

I was looking to upgrade one component first and then upgrade the other component with the same budget after like 3/4 months. so that I could get a greater upgrade

Dropping a $400 GPU into your build won't help a ton as your cpu will bottlneck it, conversely a 7700k/6700k are the best CPUs you can use (depends on mothboard which you can use) so if you can snag one of them and a very competent 1080p card like the 8gb 580 then I don't see the need to wait.

would that be enough for getting 144 fps in most games? currently playing on 144 hz monitor and my computer can only handle 80 in games like cod ww2

CPU is 25-30% faster single core if you go with a 7700 non k

Would get you around 20-25 more fps in a situation where you get 80 currently if cpu bottlnecked.

And it's around an 70-80% faster gpu

That'll allow you to turn the settings up some and still get a good fps boost in GPU bound titles. Or keep same settings and almost typically move bottlneck over to CPU
