I've been running my i5-4690k for a while now and have started to notice it slowing down and struggling to run the latest games, more specifically Battlefield V where even on the lowest settings my fps can still drop to under 40, pretty sure its the CPU as I'm below the minimum recommended i7-4790.

My current specs are:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690k @ 3.50GHz
RAM: 16GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 1080
Power Supply: Corsair CX-750
Motherboard: MSI Z97 GAMING 5 (MS-7917)

Currently looking at the i7-4790k but not sure if this would be a potentially pointless upgrade or not, as I've heard that it's already a bit outdated.

Any help or advice is much appreciated, thanks.

Solution
You either have to change your entire system (CPU/motherboard/RAM) or do the 4790K upgrade. Those are the two choices. It depends on how much $$$ you want to spend and what price you can find an i7-4790K for.
