Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade to fibre optic after my line has finally been upgraded. I've narrowed the choice down to the best deals available to me. They are: TalkTalk, BT and Plusnet. I'm currently on BT and although there has been a few problem for the majority of the time it has been reliable. I was on TalkTalk a few years ago and that was a lot less reliable, but still not entirely unusable. Plusnet is the one I have no experience with, but I am slightly wary of the way they try to sell their deals.

Any advice on experiences with these companies would be appreciated. I am in the county of Leicestershire, and the the line was recently upgraded by BT to support up to 80mb, if that's any help.

Thanks in advance.

They're all going to be very very similar, but TalkTalk has LLU regulation (which means, amongst other stuff that TalkTalk can set their own speed independent of BT and has more freedom (not that you see it exercised anyway!)) whilst Plusnet uses BT's local loop. TalkTalk has consistently rubbish customer support and you'll be lucky to ever talk to someone who has a bloody clue what they're even talking about, though their fibre is a lot more reliable than their DSL and TalkTalk don't exercise any fair usage allowances so you would have a consistent speed even at peak times.

BT Infinity broadband is excellent, in my opinion. It will be the most expensive, but you get the best speeds, the best router, best support and a stable connection with a consistent speed.

As for Plusnet, I've never used them personally, but they are local loop bundled so they won't have a lot of freedom from BT (though that's not really a bad thing) and they do have UK customer support.

i just left BT for plusnet after 15 years as a BT customer--fed up with pathetic support from india and high prices

i will save over £200 a year with plusnet

and its stupid because BT own plusnet anyway

BUT if you want to stay with BT and get a better deal choose the i want a MAC code option

this actually put me through to the customer loyalty department who offered to slash my current BT bill by £20 a month--i had already signed up to plusnet by that point and couldnt be bothered cancelling it

but in 15 years as a BT customer i had never even heard of the customer loyalty department

shame they keep it such a secret
