Hello guys. I'm looking to upgrade my processor. My knowledge of computers isn't the best. I know my PC is pretty old but anyway I have an AMD LE-1620 and it fits in an AM2 socket. What I wanted to know was if I could replace it with an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ processor. Would it work? My PC model is a emachines E1161-05 if that helps.

Solution
I SAY SAVE THE MONEY make a new pc for around 300 dllrs i can help, but to asner you question the specification would work if its the same socket it should 32/64 bit same on both procesors so am saying yea it should

YEA IF YOU ON A BUDGET 300 FOR NEW PC GOOD O JUST GET A NEW MOTHER BAORD CPU AND CASE AND FROM THER UPGRADE SLOWLY BUT NOW YOUR GOING TO HAVE A GOOD BASE WITCH TO RUN OFF

Replacing the Emachines motherboard would also have to include a new version of Windows since this current version would become invalid.

So would AMD board (higher than AM2) work on my PC if I removed my old one?

Unfortunately, I don't think that I can save up to 300 dollars any time soon as I am on a very tight budget. But making a new one is something I would do in the future. But lets say that I did get the Athlon processor, would there be a sizable difference in performance from the one I already have? I mostly use my computer for youtube, light gaming, video editing, and streaming movies.
