So as of right now I have this currently:

CPU - Core i5-4690K (stock cooler)

GPU - MSI GTX 980 Ti GAMING 6G

RAM - Corsair Vengeance Red 16GB DDR3 (2 x 8GB)

MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3

STORAGE - SanDisk Ultra 480GB (eh something like that xD)
2TB WD Black 7200 RPM

CASE - NZXT Phantom 410 Red

PSU - EVGA SuperNova G1 750 watts

MONITOR - BenQ GL2460 1920x1080 60Hz

So I have been saving some money to upgrade my PC (about $500) and I wanted to know what is the best-bang-for-the-buck upgrades? I want to keep my monitor resolution (1080p) because with my current GPU its perfect. I never have to worry about if my PC can handle the game on max settings or not. I know 144Hz monitors exist so maybe if it's worth it I might get that. Another option is that I could upgrade to Skylake? Anyway thanks for helping out! :)

Well then I have 4 questions. If I go with the FREE-SYNC monitor, then it's just a monitor refreshing at 144Hz? Will a 980 Ti fare well at 1440p in games like World of Tanks, Grand Theft Auto 5, Battlefield 4? I'm not sure which HDMI cable I will need (HDMI 1.0,1.4,2.0) I think my current one is 1.0. Since the higher quality and faster refresh will 1.0 still do the job? Can I use my current monitor as like a secondary screen (for browsing while I'm playing)?

Freesync will be disabled and the montior will work as intended otherwise. The gtx 980ti is excellent at 1440p and can handle pretty much any game. Don't use hdmi. Use a display port cable instead for the higher bandwidth. Yes you can use multiple monitors are the same time and will work if you put the game in windowed mode while gaming (I have 4 connected to my 980ti right now).
