Looking to upgrade my PC

I was really stupid and bought a prebuilt PC (i7 6700 @ 3.4GHz, 16GB Ram), even though I upgraded the GPU to a 980Ti, the PC isn't running as well as it should. I can't even hit 60FPS @ 1080P for most AAA games.

Since GTX 1080 is coming out really soon, I plan to get it and in the process upgrade all my components except for the case (Enthroo pro mid tower) and the PSU (Evga Gold 750w, but not sure if it is enough for gtx 1080).

I'm aiming for all the best + fastest parts so nothing will drag the GTX 1080 (which is probably what's happening to my 980Ti right now, something isn't working well) and I will also be getting a 4K monitor.

I would really appreciate if you guys can recommend the best parts for me, don't want to get scammed again because I don't know much.

Thanks :)

You will need to reinstall them, but your game save files should be able to be save/extracted before the wipe (and be careful, you may find those in the C drive even though the game install is on the other drive).

When you reinstall it, then you can put your save files back into the correct directory (depends on what your settings are as to where they will be, but putting them back after the upgrade is just replacing the file over again).
Whats the full specification of your PC? like which mobo and which brand of RAM. and what was the old Graphics card? maybe it has some compatibility issues namely software. try re-installing fresh windows with latest drivers see if that helps if not maybe some defect on your components. and your PSU is plenty enough for your Graphics Card and the GTX 1080/1070 are more power efficient so no worries there with your 750Watt PSU.

Something else is going on.
A 6700 is a beast, as is a 980Ti.
Should be plenty for 1440 or 144hz@1080.

My slower system can hold ~100@1080 close to max settings.
Keep in mind that SOME settings will kill performance for very little visual gain. Nv Hairworks is notorious for this.

A 1080 will do well at 4k. Even then you MGHT need to drop a few setting in certain games.

The mobo and ram were all really crappy ones that I couldn't find on google LOL. I can't recall the names but I remember when I post them online, nobody knew what they were.
I have uninstalled the old drivers of 960 and installed the new drivers.

thanks. Yes the OS is already on SSD. But it came with the PC on startup, can I reinstall it without having the disk or software?

well thats a problem. hahaha. but you have a great CPU and GPU so it really doesnt make sense you cant reach 60fps.

some things that might really help as ive said try to re-install windows and your drivers, believe me ive owned a pre build system which was sluggish back in 08'and the work around was fresh OS with latest drivers.

if that doesnt work i guess some hardware issues. some defects maybe on your ram or mobo or GPU. but thats highly unlike though since you can play without crashing but worth noting.

and if you have some extra budget go and buy a newer mobo and memory, $50 bucks on some good Mem kits and a $150 - $200 mobo.
especially since you are planning on getting a GTX 1080. worth getting an upgrade on your motherboard.

Yes, Win 10 makes it easy:

Choose the 'keep nothing' option though to ensure a complete do-over on the OS.....just be sure to make sure all important data is on a different drive or otherwise backed up.

Thanks Night Owl. :)

One final question, most of my games are in the D drive, so if I reinstall windows in the C drive, will I lose the stuffs on the D drive?

yup I thought about that, but then I thought since I'm really new to PC building, and the last time I opened the PC and changed the GPU and PSU, it took me a whole day, I might as well change everything (mobo, ram, CPU and GPU), because I thought my CPU or ram might be defective or something.
Yeah I have the budget to do a complete upgrade of everything to 4K gaming-capable so that's not an issue. But I guess I will do a fresh reinstall first to see if it solves any problem so I don't have to waste money. Thanks :)
