Looking to upgrade pc

Hi guys, I'm looking to upgrade my pc, due to some performance issues with some games.I was thinking of a new motherboard and ram sticks would help better my build. I also thought of a r9 390 or gtx 970, but I bought my gpu somewhat recently.
My specs are:
MSI R9 Radeon 280 3gb
Asus H81M-K motherboard
Intel i5 Core 4590(with a Cooler Master Hyper 103)
Seagate SSHD 1TB
2x4gb of ram(both 1333mhz and from different brands)
Cooler Master 650m Bronze Certification

The only thing i would add there , would be a graphic card , i would go with a 980 , and a SSD. As for the rest of the system , its fine , if you dont plan overclocking.

Although I would like a 980 on my build, it's way out of my bugdet. But thanks for the help
